Hippodamia Silkmoth (Rhescyntis hippodamia)

Rhescyntis hippodamia occurs from southern Mexico to northern Argentina, and in Trinidad. It inhabits most tropical forests, including secondary growth, from nearly sea level to 1,700 m. A very large silkmoth; the wingspan is 150-220 mm. Adults are light brown (sometimes greenish) with pinkish shading; black dots on the tip of forewing. The larvae feed on the nutmegs (Bicuiba and Virola spp., Myristicaceae); the adults do not feed.
